This is the back porch off the kitchen. If you enlarge the picture (by clicking on it), you can see that the floor of the room is wayyyyy below the bottom of the door going into the house. Also, this back wall that we tore off was in such back shape from the rain and the wind, that we decided to rip it out completely and redo the wall from scratch.
This is what we tore off.
In this picture you can see the new wall from the inside (it's the wall to the far right side of the photo). Also, this is the concrete pad that sits wayyyy below the kitchen door.
We decided the best way to raise the floor to the right height was to build a little deck in that space.
This is the second project we worked on. I found this great door at a thrift store and we replaced the old door that did not have a window and was very flimsy with it.
Still needs work but eventually it will be great!
The new door and the new new wall from the outside.
The house is moving along very slow and that is partially because the price of materials has sky-rocketed, but the main reason is because we are both moving slower these days and I am super busy with customer quilts, which is exhausting in it's own right!!
Wow--what a difference! I love the vintage door, too. This is as much fun as watching home reno shows, which I love. It is fun to see the transformation you are making on your home, however slowly it may be moving. And remember this is coming from someone who moved into her partially finished home in 1984, and it still has lots of "projects" left to do! :)
ReplyDeleteI always wander in to your Saturday smile and check to see if you have posted about the house. You all amaze me at what you have done. Keep up the awesome work.
